New Caledonia had positioned itself to physically host the 10th Pacific Island Conference for Nature Conservation and Protected Areas in April 2020.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the format of the conference has evolved into a virtual event.

New Caledonia, which since 2018 participates in the organization of the event, keeps its status of "host country" by chairing the high-level segment.
