Pacific Youth for Biodiversity

Every day the voice of youth as custodians of the future is sounding louder. World leaders acknowledge that decision taken today directly affect the lives of youth. That is why we want to strengthen the involvement of Pacific youth in the biodiversity regional and global decision-making processes now and into the future.

Are you younger than 29 years and want to let us know what you think is important for Pacific Nature Conservation? We have the following options for you:

  1. Share your voice in a creative way on the Youth Biodiversity gallery

  2. Apply to be a Pacific Islands Biodiversity Youth Ambassador

  3. Share your stories in the Galleries through a Lightning Story or a Striking Fact (for 18 years and older only)

YOUTH BIODIVERSITY GALLERY

The Youth Biodiversity Gallery is a platform for young people to express their creative voice on biodiversity issues through art and creative communication and to reflect on their relationship to a changing world and become advocates for environmental action.

We call on young people to create their own work of art, photography, short film or poetry that reflects the vision 'Healthy Oceans – Healthy Islands – Healthy People’ and advocate for action to tackle the challenges facing Pacific biodiversity into the future. Your creation can be submitted for publication on the Youth Biodiversity Gallery.

The Youth Biodiversity Gallery is opened to young people from the ages of 9-29 years of the Pacific island countries and territories. There are two categories to the event: Art (painting, drawing, placard, literary etc.) and Digital (Audio and Film).

AMBASSADOR

Pacific Islands Biodiversity Youth Ambassadors

A new initiative that will connect Pacific Island youth and their communities, with other youth from across the islands, along with other National representatives, regional and global agencies who collectively play a role in decision making or shaping implementation of regional (including the Pacific Islands Framework for Nature Conservation and Protected Areas 2021-2025) and global Biodiversity targets and frameworks on the ground.

There has been a strong youth voice around Climate Change issues.  However, the voice of Pacific island youth on Biodiversity issues has not been loud or clearly heard in regional and global forums.

The Pacific Islands Biodiversity Youth Ambassadors initiative, kicking off at the Pacific Islands Nature Conference seeks to take strides towards strengthening the voice of youth at the biodiversity table at this event, and future regional and global forums.

Our team of Ambassadors will also help to promote the 10th Pacific Islands Nature Conference and feedback the latest news and innovation in their community. We want them to be the face of the Conference and build relationships with local stakeholders and media to accelerate the vision of this Nature Conference.
